Researchers of IPB University’s Department of Marine Science and Technology, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (FPIK), Prof Indra Jaya as the main inventor, has developed a digital Secchi Disk Instrument which functions to evaluate water transparency with high accuracy. This device has been patented with the patent number PID201811235. Under the guidance of Prof Indra Jaya and Dr. Totok Hestrianoto, a student of IPB University’s FPIK, Dendy Daniel Kaenady, has conducted a follow-up research on the function of this device to measure its performance in evaluating water transparency compared to the conventional Secchi Disk. The conventional Secchi Disk uses visual evaluation of water transparency which is highly dependent on the examiner’s vision and judgement. Therefore, the digital form of Secchi Disk (SDD) is hoped to minimize human errors in water transparency measurement.
