Monosodium Glutamate (MSG), also known as flavor enhancer, is a food additive component which enchance the umami in food. It has been permitted by government and safe to be used in food. MSG is considered safe to be used as long as it is not excessive. The maximum intake of sodium per day (2 grams) could be used as the limit, although sodium is not only contained in MSG but also could be contained in table salt. MSG is very common to be found in foods and has been permitted by government with no maximum limit. The result from test on animal, MSG did not cause any negative effect on the animal’s health.
